Random Salad

Sitting inside a chocolate cafe using free wi-fi and I'm not thinking of the chocolates at all. I ate a huge salad today. Probably enough to feed 3 people. Don't know what I was thinking. Kept adding all this stuff in it and before I knew, I had an overwhelming large bowl of random salad. I used my new balsamic vinegar with World Market brand olive oil for the dressing. Gosh, tasty!

So this cafe plays world music. Interesting. Some songs sound tribal. Some have strange instruments and pronounced vocals. It's not easy to tune out, yet it is surprisingly not all that distracting. Just enough to drown out the only taking customer in here. I love this joint!

Next time I'm coming for the hot chocolate. Atmosphere too. The walls are painted brown...:) To enhance the chocolate feel. I can't believe my tummy is this full!

I'm still recovering from the spring back an hour time change! Bed time is approaching near. It's either that of my full tummy, but seeing sleep written in my very near future. It's only 8:11 pm local time.

New Blog Tittle

All complete with a new link too. The only unfortunate thing is all the comments made on the previous link did not transpose over. Eh, minor issue. I can still see them from my dashboard but my readers can't. All two of them. :)

This is the beginning of something new, new.
I like it. And I'm going to embrace it. Changes.
They can be delightful.

Sometimes I just want to write about these things. Little things.

Authors that interest me lately include:
Herman Hesse
E.E. Cummins

Currently reading several books. A New Earth by Eckart Tolle. I wonder if I'll find myself sitting on a park bench gazing out to the water in a world of awakening.
Maybe, maybe not. It doesn't matter.

What is Sunyata?

Nothing
Zeroness
Void
Unreal
Non-existent

It's none of the above because its more than all the above.
To understand Sunyata, we must grasp that no phenomenon when taken by itself is thinkable: they are all interdependent and have no separate existence of their own.

Sunyata explains the relationship of zeroness with infinity.
The Sanskrit term for zero is 'Shunya'.
0=1=

It is the only path to liberation. In Sanskrit we call that moksha.
If sunyata is real, it leaves me with grave questions. What is the joy in knowing that nothing is really real? I am infinity, without any doubt. But how could this not be real? Because the world is a stage. And the only thing that is real, is what we believe is real.

I was taking a stroll around a busy lake this afternoon. Partially consumed in my thoughts while also enjoying the view. Without any effort, I was all of a sudden hit with a moment of clarity. Wow. This dialogue finally made perfect sense.

"There is no one else," I said. "In this universe, there's just you. And me.

Compassion: The Key To Great Awakening

This is an inspiring piece of work I stumbled upon at the Central Public Library over a week ago. It is written by Geshe Tsultim Gveltsen, a Tibetan Monk and now a teacher who holds the Lharampa Geshe degree. A degree similar to to a doctorate in the Tibetan Buddhist Monastic University System.

It is a thought training exercise with an excellent background on Dharma, Karma, Samsara and some of the other preliminaries required for the Bodhisattva practice.

The 8 root verses were what shed the most light for me. I paused on the sixth verse two days ago. My mind required some time to process the readings. An awakening is already occurring within me and I've began the process of meditating on these experiences.

I find these verses to be profound yet simple teachings that go with the flow of mother nature. The commentaries on the root text helps break down the meaning and reason for the practices. It may seem after reading these verses that these teachings require one to live as a monk or move to a monastery. I don't believe that is required. We are not all meant for the monastic life.

I believe the goals should be incorporate compassion in our daily existence with the people we already interact with. In my experience, even doing something as little as making eye-contact with the sincere intention to connect on a higher level, begins this connection.

Here are the 8 Root Verses.

Verse One
By thinking of all sentient beings
as even better than the wish-granting gem
for accomplishing the highest aim
may I always consider them precious.

Verse Two
Wherever I go, with whomever I go
may I see myself as less than all others,
and from the depth of my heart
may I consider them supremely precious

Verse Three
May I examine my mind in all actions
and as soon as a negative state occurs,
since it endangers myself and others,
may I firmly face and avert it.

Verse Four
When I see beings of a negative disposition
or those oppressed by negativity or pain,
may I, as if finding a treasure,
consider them precious, for they are rarely met.

Verse Five
Whenever others, due to their jealousy,
revile and treat me in other unfair ways,
may I accept this defeat myself,
and offer the victory to others

Verse Six
When someone whom I have helped
or in whom I have placed great hope
harms me with great injustice
may I see that one as a sacred friend

Verse Seven
In short, may I offer both directly and indirectly
all joy and benefit to all beings, my mothers,
and may I myself secretly take on
all of their hurt and suffering

Verse Eight
May they not be defiled by the concepts
of the eight mundane concerns
and aware that all things are illusory
may they, ungrasping, be free from bondage.

OM

Om is powerful, mother taught us growing up. I took her word then, but now I'm discovering more about Om. Many of the Sanskrit prayers I learned in my childhood began with Om. Through yoga I learned that internalizing Om creates a harmonic vibration. Peaceful vibes in a way.

Here is more interesting stuff I learned on wiki..

"OM" is the reflection of the absolute reality. It is said to be "Adi Anadi": without beginning or the end and embracing all that exists. The mantra "OM" is the name of God, the vibration of the Supreme.
What's more? Om is the primordial sound that was present at the creation of the universe. It is said to be the original sound that contains all other sounds, all words, all languages and all mantras.

OOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM
