Why I Think About Pi

I like the kind you eat, and the pi that's the 3.14 number. I woke two morning ago with a very different type of query. I had pi on my mind.. and it was not the kind you eat.The Pi R-squared equals the circumference of a circle.
I was in a sleep-wake state as I was trying to rationalize what makes a perfect circle. Pi keeps on going forever, so the circle could keep on getting more circular? That makes sense does it not?

Now this fact from wiki, I found way fascinating..
1) the value of π has been computed to more than a trillion (1012) digits
2) a value truncated to 11 decimal places is accurate enough to calculate the circumference of a circle the size of the earth with a precision of a millimeter, and one truncated to 39 decimal places is sufficient to compute the circumference of any circle that fits in the
observable universe to a precision comparable to the size of a hydrogen atom.

Party Like it's 3/3/09

Happy Square Root Day!
Something to delight in tomorrow: 3/3/09 is the third square root date of the century.
For those mathematically challenged: 9 is the square of 3. 3 is the square root of 9.

Square root day is a holiday celebrated (by math geeks and nerds all over the world) on dates where the day and the month are both the square root of the last two digits in the current year.

This century, 3 square root dates have already occurred.

People do all kinds of crazy things in celebration. It's all insanity BUT what isn't.
I'm eating some root veggies cut up in squares and drinking root beer out of square mugs while I do a little square dance..
I might even wonder how many of these square events I'll be able to make in this lifetime. Hmmm...can't wonder too much.

It's hip to be square!
